Physiotherapy is used in the treatment of muscle, tendon or ligament pain, swelling or spasms. Dr. Ivers will often incorporate the use of physiotherapy modalities with other treatment protocol to enhance or ensure your recovery. Physiotherapy may include one of or a combination of the following:

Electrotherapy

(aka electric stim, interferential, micro current) involves the use of therapeutic electric current for the purpose of reducing pain and swelling, to relax muscle spasms, and to increase local blood circulation. Russian stimulation is used for muscle stretching and strengthening, muscle reeducation, and increasing range of motion.

Ultrasound

has been in medical use for over 45 years to treat soft tissue ailments and pains such as bursitis and muscle strain. Ultrasound is a sound wave using various frequencies to penetrate tissues to decrease swelling, reduce pain, and promote the body's healing powers.

Superficial Heat

is used to increase circulation, reduce joint stiffness and relax muscle tension. This is often performed through the use of hot moist packs or warm moist towels.

Cryotherapy

is the application of ice to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, relax muscle spasms, and numb painful tissues.

is unique and powerful direct current muscle stimulation. The 2 phase application. The 1st phase uses a pulse rate of 100 Hz which acts to decrease swelling and the second phase uses a pulse rate of 500 Hz which reduces muscle spasm. It is normal to feel tingling after this treatment is the area it was used for up to 30 minutes. Please note that if you are feeling sore after an intense treatment, high setting, we advise you to drink plenty of water. This is particularly true if you experience a great deal of muscle contraction during your treatment.

Kinetic Activity

is a term which describes exercise you do with the therapist or with the Dr. It can take many forms such as PNF stretching, (assisted stretching), resistance exercises using elastic bands or weights or simply walking on a treadmill. We utilize this to train you on exercises specific to your condition or injury.
